Theory test information
You need to pass your theory test before you can book your practical driving test.
What's in the theory test?
The theory test has two parts, taken in the same session:
- Multiple choice questions on the Highway Code, road signs and safe driving
- Hazard perception: video clips where you spot developing hazards
You need to pass both parts to get your theory test pass certificate. The certificate is valid for two years.
Booking your theory test
You need a valid provisional driving licence to take your theory test. You can book your theory test on GOV.UK, where you'll also find the current fee.
