Practical test information
The practical test lasts about 40 minutes and lets you show everything you've learned in your lessons.
What happens on the day
- Eyesight check: you'll read the number plate of a parked vehicle
- "Show me, tell me" questions: two vehicle safety questions
- General driving: on a range of roads and in different traffic conditions
- Independent driving: around 20 minutes following a sat nav or road signs
- Reversing: one reversing manoeuvre, and you may be asked to do an emergency stop

Booking your practical test
You can book your practical test on GOV.UK. Evening, weekend and bank holiday tests cost more than weekday tests. You'll also need to book your instructor and car for the test. See our test day prices.
